We close-out 2020 with a dedication to VERSACE. This was by far one of the best DOTY Award Winner campaigns. To be fair, they’re all fun and we don’t have favorites. Really! Why??? Because each designer represents a time and place in fashion and our readers lives. They capture the essence and spirit of the year. Giving us hopes. Making us think. And always, making us want more.
Why was this one so special?
In a few words, it’s the fact that VERSACE gave us dreams of fabulousness to aspire too. Dreams of a world that will be like before and VERSACE is ready to outfit us for that adventure. We meant it, when they were on the cover with the catchphrase; “Driving Into The Future.” A future that is bright and full of love and glory. That’s Versace!
VERSACE always brings the passion and the love for sexy, yet classy and stylish living. This year, 2020; was literally straight out of the mouth of Samuel L. Jackson when he uses profanity. However, we always must inspire strength and love. Compassionate, yet strong values of success that includes a diverse world view. Yes, 2020 wasn’t fun. Yet, it’s the job of fashion to keep the people moving and to inspire dreams. To light the fires of hope. To make people want beauty and know that it is vital in their lives. To that end and with that goal in mind; we feel VERSACE embodies those values (Pre-pandemic and Now).
DOTY campaigns are selected on Jan. 1st. Well, correct that. They’re released to our readers and the public on the 1st day of the New Year. However, they’re selected earlier in the year. The criteria is fierce but tailored to our readership. The DOTY must do the following:
- Coed Collections/Offerings: Give wonderful designs for both men and women.
- Menswear Editorial: For our manly readers, they must be able to strike a firm pose for our male, and mostly muscular readers. That means, if we grabbed a reader and told them we’re giving you a closetful of clothes by the Designer of The Year; the guy would clinch his fists and yell, “Hell Yeah, thanks MILANO411!” VERSACE delivers on that objective 100% and always with style.
- Vision for The Future: Donatella Versace inspires us and is a true leader. She comes up with ideas that keep the house at the forefront of fashion, the arts, and life itself. Making us feel alive and loved. Thanks Donatella.
So that is the criteria. We selected Versace in December of 2019. Had no idea 2020 was going to be that kind of year. But VERSACE came through and gave us glamour under duress. Yes, the world is chaotic. However, use fantasy and fashion to take a break from it. Also, we selected VERSACE for its commitment to human rights. Especially that of women and the gay community. Also, striving to improve race relations and pushing diversity on the runway and within their print campaigns. Again, VERSACE lead the way. We love this company and the title of this UNTIL WE MEET AGAIN post, is to show our respect and love for a company that is always on the edge of doing new trends and setting the bar for fashion, to a higher level. Taking us into the future, but always allowing the kisses of the Medusa Head to set the tone and level of fun to maximum pleasure and a feast for the senses. DRIVE INTO THE FUTURE WITH VERSACE!
