Is Tourism Killing Venice?

MILANO411.com presents this sad tale of what mass AirBNB style TOURISM is doing to one of Italy’s greatest cities, Venice. The Venetians are in a weird dilemma. The money is good, yet most average Venetians can’t be seen on the street due to the level of tourists. This is doubly sad, because the people make the place. Once they are compromised you end up with Pompeii style CITY of ruins with no character.

There are more tourists and fewer residents in the historic city of Venice.

The city known as the “Queen of the Adriatic” has lost more than half its population in the past 50 years. The Venetians who remain are trying to find ways to reclaim their city. First the city was sinking. It still is, but there are plans to save if money can be marshalled and applied.

It is sad, some of the older members of the MILANO411 office remember Venice of the 1980s and 1990s. The Venice of the film festival. The Venice that held Europe’s largest Swinger Ball. Well, they were fucking, but least they wore traditional costumes and those Venetian masks. Let’s try to save Venice!

Ciao from Milano….

What happened to the Venice of Madonna? It was the 1980s and a proud Italian-American took to the streets of Venice as crowds had to be held back. There is also the story of the poor lion. The lion is senior citizen lion. So he wasn’t long for this world, but even in old age, he is regal next to our Pop legend and icon. That dancer from Michigan, that once worked at Dunkin’ Donuts and had a blonde ambition to conquer the world.

OR…The Venice of Roger Moore in James Bond film, Moonraker. What happened? Why is are love of Disney like entertainments destroy true culture?
