HAPPY OCTOBER & HALLOWEEN??? (Not if you get grabbed by one of these things!): We love HUMANOIDS FROM THE DEEP. The original one from the 1980s. The 1990s one, was a bit weak. Worried about offending, versus entertaining. You can’t make subject matter like this without flooring the pedal (in a car or truck) of “good taste.” You must go there to convey the disgust and horror of this contextual story. We are big fans of GOO-HORROR. The stuff that makes you want to “blow chunks,” scream and hug the one you love. Also, it’s just entertainment. If you want art-house documentaries, good for you. But if you want to think and be grossed out, this is the flick. Good popcorn movie too.
The environment is important. In this toxic tale, we learn of a plant leaking a substance that creates monsters. Monsters that want to kill men and breed with human women. Where is Dr. Freud when you need him? Is it another “monster tale,” weaponizing the fear of rape and especially sex with people that look different? The Creature From Black Lagoon was released during the same years of the American Civil Rights Movement. Coincidence? OR, just Hollywood being Hollywood? We don’t know. Discuss amongst yourselves.
