Alex Vasileski: Big Man/Big Style/Big Heart


Alex Vasileski is the proud owner of A-Mind-Body Total Fitness ( and has been seen on: NBC, ABC, FOX, CBS, WCIU, and The Steve Harvey Show.  As a two-time cancer survivor, it is his “never give up” attitude that has led him to be an advocate of health and wellness both here in the U.S., as well as in his native Macedonia, where he championed a free clinic for those in need.  He currently donates his time as a mentor for the Imerman Angels organization, as an auxiliary Board Member of Bear Necessities Pediatric Cancer Foundation, Mentor and Public Speaker for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and is an official Crew Member for Core.

He stresses a personal training style centered upon ALWAYS believing in and CONSISTENTLY striving for excellence in all you should do.  Never taking second best and knowing that the only barriers that you have are yourself.  Stressing, with big brotherly love and the shoulders to go with it; that AMBTF delivers custom programming for all of your needs whether it be individual coaching, nutritional evaluations, corporate wellness programs, life coaching and online training.  The man and his team do it all. As fitness experts, Alex and his team work very hard to create accountability and sustainability through an educational pathway structure, which is both fun and safe for the client.  Never neglecting that clients are real people with real problems, and everyone deserves the Hollywood treatment, even if they’re not a movie star.  Success is something he is used to and never settles for nothing less for all of our clients. We had the chance to sit down with him, via the wonders of technology and have a little chat.

Interview with Alex


1. How would you describe your personal style, in terms of dress?

Trendy and edgy, I’ll wear things most men won’t! I feel my body is an expression of myself and the work I do in the gym.

2. Who are your favorite menswear designers and why?

Tom Ford: it’s clean and refined with a classic look that will last forever and the cut of the clothing is impeccable.

3. What is the best look for a man, in your opinion, for the gym?

Functional is always best as you are going there to make a difference. Matching shoes and tanks are not cool. Something fitted, both top and bottom is good. You should wear something that shows your muscles so you can see them working during the workout!

4. Tell us about your personal training company and its philosophy.

The philosophy is quite simple, educate through awareness and individuality as each person is unique and so shall their programs be too (like a fingerprint).

5. Out all the celebrities you’ve PTed, who were your favorites and why?

Joanna Krupa, she’s intelligent and works very hard for what she wants! Her attitude in life is remarkable and contagious and she carries that over into her health and wellness.

6. Any plans for yourself, to take your physique fitness celebrity talents into other realms like acting or designing your own line of clothes?

I plan on taking my ability/passion to another level. I’d love to be the spokesperson for a campaign for a great clothing company or nutrition company. Additionally, I would love to get involved in the reality TV space or acting world using my talents.

7. What is your favorite type of modeling and why?

Fitness and artistic as they both show all elements of the human body. I’ve been modeling for about 4 years. I’ve done nude, Avant Guard, fitness, lifestyle, and formal wear.

8. How long have you been in the US and was it a big difference between Macedonian gym culture and an American one?

I’ve been here for 20 years. It was a huge difference here in terms of the gym culture. Here there is a focus on just being bigger but not necessarily fit and proportioned. Leanness is another forgotten art when it comes to the overall physique/bodybuilding culture here, but it is slowly changing.

9. You are an incredible dresser. Why do you think some men, and those who are bodybuilders; consider too much style to not be masculine or despairingly referring to those who dress nice as “so gay?”

I think it’s all ego based and driven. Most men get into bodybuilding to make up for some feeling of inadequacy rather than just a raw passion, never dealing with their true demons. They tend to cast shade on the hinges that intimidate them and they can’t control, if they feel inferior or not “good enough,” then they will call it feminine and avoid it as their rationale behind not being fashion forward.

10. Our menswear philosophy is to encourage guys with hot bods to not be afraid of style. What advice would you give “Bros” who are concerned with what others think of them if they are too fashionable in the gym?

If you work hard in the gym, you do it to look better naked (PERIOD!). That said, we can’t walk around society naked all the time, but we can decorate our bodies with some amazing clothing designs that accentuate what we all work so hard for in the gym, day-after-day, week-after-week.

11. What advice would you give to someone who is suffering a life altering health diagnosis (Advance HIV, Breast Cancer, Colon Cancer, etc), who wants to continue to workout and has the permission of their doctor? Or they’re coming back from surviving that type of health ordeal and are saddened by how their disease has ravished their body.

Find a professional that can help you out, one that understands what it’s like to face one of the hardest things you have to face in life. The trainer should also function as a life coach as they will be there every step of the way. Also, remember, you are where you are for a reason! Fight, be strong, and don’t minimize your feelings or battle!

But also, don’t forget the sickness did this to your body, but not your mind or drive to refine yourself in the gym and out. Reclaim the mind through love and fellowship with others that have been through what you’ve been through. As a trainer, I’m my client’s friend too, on top of their trainer or diet guy.

The most important part of any battle is to know that it is your battle and finding something that motivates you to take your life back is important. You must not minimize your experience, fighting is brave and courageous. You are where you are for a reason, take that opportunity to learn and rise from the ashes and be that powerful flame that ignites your greatness through negativity. You are a survivor and still a winner, compared to those who choose to be “couch potatoes” and not reach for excellence.

12. Can you describe your struggle and triumphs with your health? What did you do to get back to the gym?

I was told I had 10 months to live, being diagnosed a second time seemed debilitating and was overwhelming. Giving up seemed so easy. Staying in bed was easy, dying would have been easy. But I’ve never taken the “easy road,” so why start now was my thought. I made the choice to fight for life. To not give up. I made the choice that I will not go down without a fight. I also knew that I owed it to so many to win this battle so I can inspire and create hope for many. That was my driving force and I slowly took back my body and made it my temple and beacon of light for all those who have fear or doubt.

12. Did you ever feel like giving up when disease returned a second time?

Absolutely. Waking up every day was difficult. Thoughts of giving up seemed like the only way at times. I had to dig deep and find my purpose.

13. Your company does a lot of charity events and public relations events too. How did that come about and tell us about them or future ones you have planned?

I owe it to the world to give back and pay it forward as I am still alive today because so many people had a direct and indirect hand in my survival and success. So being involved in charities that mean the world to me is essential in my livelihood.

14. What are your goals going into 2016 and beyond?

My goals are to be on TV (show/reality show, be the spokesperson for a brand campaign, and continue to help others around the world).

15. Do you feel guilty for surviving when so many have died fighting their battle?

Yes, I feel guilty all the time, “Survivor’s Guilt.” I use that to push me to greatness…I may not be great yet, but I’m trying every day. That’s all one can do.

16. What is your biggest letdown that comes from people/society?

Judgement without education. The choice of ignorance that leads to bigotry.

18. If you could go back in time (via magic, time machine, fairy, etc..); would you change anything from your past?

I would, because now I know what I didn’t know back then. Hindsight is 20/20. That’s said, I’m the man I am today because of it so not exactly sure how I would do that…
